The Most Wonderful Time of the Year?

I hear the music and sway to it with a smile, but do I really feel that way? Do you feel that way? I can honestly say that sometimes the added pressure of buying and wrapping gifts, decorating, sending greetings, baking, and all the rest can be very overwhelming. To help me in this process, I’ve had to put a few things in place that sometimes gets laughs, maybe even ridiculed. Here are a few thing that have helped in my life and for our family.

Making New Holiday Traditions

Holidays can be a very difficult time for families with kids with special needs. Many of the traditions and family gatherings they used to enjoy, they can’t anymore. It can be an especially hard and lonely time, as the difficulties that come with special needs are magnified. Our first attempt was a sorry start to new holiday traditions. However, we persisted. Eleven years later, we have some new special Thanksgiving and Christmas traditions.

The most important gift you can give your kids at the end of this year is to show them God is still at work. Sit down with them and talk about all God has done in your lives in 2019. “Remember and tell” over and over again.

One day I saw a young man who looked to be in his late 20's in a grocery store, holding several Elmo stuffed animals. I first thought, "Boy he really likes Elmo!" Then I thought of my Charlie. A lightbulb went off that day.
