The world might seem to have a lot to offer, but as it applies to the caring of a child or loved one with special needs, it offers us things that won’t make us happy and won’t deliver what we need. The world will always lack authenticity and the act of serving will not be very high on the rung of the ladder, by worldly standards.
Because of all this, we need to align ourselves with God and His will. HOW?
It is revealed in His word, through prayer, and as we desire to obey Him and be more like Him. One good practice to align with God is to read through the Proverbs – one per day (there are 31) and examine our circumstance and see how it aligns with God’s Word. It is amazing how pertinent the scripture is as we filter our challenges, problems, issues, difficulties, and life decisions through the written Word.
If we ignore His Word, we ignore what we need. Proverbs 1:7 “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge; fools despise wisdom and instruction.” We need wisdom. We need instruction in this life of caregiving; especially when we feel we can’t do it any longer – and that likely happens more than we’d like to admit.
His Word will allow us to recognize our sin and make the necessary changes. We learn to keep our promises and fulfill our responsibilities through scripture which can lead us. As that happens, we realize that we live to impact others around us; not just the person for whom we are giving care. We can fulfill the undertaking which we have been given. He will give us what we need. And we know we need what He offers.
Let’s ask Him for His wisdom and instruction to finish well in this serious and often difficult undertaking. He is faithful and trustworthy. The world is not.
Romans 12:2, “And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect.”
